Clay Bobble Heads
Clay Bobble Heads
Grade: 5th Graders
Summary:
This lesson focused on the medium of clay and making, as well as painting, animal bobble heads. The lesson started off with an online presentation over techniques used, what clay even is, and how we will use it. After the end of this lesson, the teacher came over and demonstrated what to do on the table right in front of the students. The first step was to make the clay given in to two separate balls. Then, pinch pots were made. The teacher demonstrated this. Next, comes making the body. Students used the rest of said clay and made a cone like structure for the bottom. Now, it was time to add embellishments such as arms, legs, eyes, nose, and ears. Students then had to hollow out the bottom of their animal so it would dry better. While creating their animal, the teacher passed out materials, and told them different techniques/facts of clay making. Once they completed their animal, the rest was left to painting! After the completion of painting, students had to write at least 3 sentences explaining their animal, what it is, what it does, and a fun fact. After this, their work was put on display!
Extension Activity:
An extension activity for this project could involve science. Students could know more about the animal that they chose. They will research more on said animal and will paint it as it is shown in real life. Once they have a least a paragraph of information. They will present their findings to the class and this will help their social, presentation, and research skills.
